The project helped connect the students with their Native culture and helped us see the Reservation through the student's eyes. Throughout the year the project was hands-on; David always engaged all of the students that were present, making sure they had and knew their equipment. He modeled the utmost respect for each of the students and monitored the respect between the students. He always cared about the involvement of each student and the class. David continually asked the students to evaluate their work and to make it better and encouraged them to share their work with other students and the community.

Our History

A VOICE-Art Vision & Outreach In Community Education was incorporated on June 21, 2006. A VOICE was founded by photographer David J. Spear and Polson, Montana native Jill L. Erickson, with the advice and counsel of Jenifer Blumberg.

Prior to this, Jill and David actively pursued this type of fundraising and project work through other local non-profit organizations. In 2002, in association with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, they started Our Community Record Two Eagle River School. This ongoing project has been funded through A VOICE-Art Vision & Outreach In Community Education since the fall of 2006.
